REZZ (real name — Isabelle Rezazadeh; born March 28, 1995, in Kharkiv, Ukraine) — is a Canadian DJ and music producer of Ukrainian-Iranian descent. She grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario. REZZ's music sits at the intersection of midtempo bass, bass music, electro and techno; her sound is built around a slowed-down tempo, heavy synthesizer parts, minimalist rhythms and a dark psychedelic atmosphere.
Since the mid-2010s, REZZ has become one of the most recognizable figures on the North American electronic scene. Her first professional releases appeared on NEST and mau5trap, she later worked with RCA Records, and in 2022 founded her own label, HypnoVizion. Her discography includes the albums Mass Manipulation, Certain Kind of Magic, Spiral, CAN YOU SEE ME? and As The Pendulum Swings. REZZ is a two-time Juno Award winner.
Childhood in Ukraine and Canada
Isabelle Rezazadeh was born in Kharkiv to a Ukrainian mother and an Iranian father. She moved to Canada with her family as a child and grew up in Niagara Falls.
Music was not initially considered a future profession. As a teenager, Isabelle Rezazadeh was involved in sports, was interested in basketball and only later became drawn to the electronic music scene.
Among the artists who caught her attention during this period were Tiësto, Afrojack and other major figures of early-2010s festival electronic music. The work of deadmau5 had an especially strong influence on her.
From around the age of sixteen, Isabelle Rezazadeh began DJing at school events and parties. At first, she was primarily interested in DJing itself, but discovering deadmau5's music and live performances gradually pushed her toward producing her own tracks.
First Experiments in Music Production
REZZ never received formal education in composition or audio engineering. She taught herself music production, learning how synthesizers worked, how to process sound and how electronic tracks were structured.
At an early stage, REZZ spent most of her free time making music and published experiments online, including on SoundCloud. Even in these early works, her interest in slow, heavy rhythms, distorted synthesizer tones and tense atmospheres was already apparent, standing apart from standard festival-oriented structures.
Alongside deadmau5, French producer Gesaffelstein became another important reference point. Early in her career, REZZ was often compared with him because of the tempo, industrial undertones and dark aesthetic, although her own style became recognizable fairly quickly.
NEST, Skrillex and mau5trap
REZZ's professional career began in 2015, when her music attracted the attention of the team around Skrillex. Her debut EP, Insurrection, was released through NEST, a division of OWSLA.
REZZ's recordings soon caught the attention of deadmau5. The next stage of her career became closely associated with his label, mau5trap.
In 2016, two EPs were released on mau5trap — The Silence Is Deafening and Something Wrong Here. One of her most notable early tracks was «Edge». These releases fully established REZZ's approach: a relatively slow tempo, massive low-end, short repeating motifs and deliberate space between the main elements of the arrangement.
Mass Manipulation
On August 4, 2017, REZZ released her debut studio album Mass Manipulation. It included «Relax», «Diluted Brains», «DRUGS!», «Synesthesia» and collaborative tracks with Knodis, 13 and Kotek.
The album title reflects the theme of how mass media and the surrounding environment can influence human perception. This idea also continued in REZZ's visual identity — hypnotic spirals, repetitive graphics and glowing glasses that became part of her stage image.
In 2018, Mass Manipulation earned REZZ a Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year.
Certain Kind of Magic
REZZ's second studio album, Certain Kind of Magic, was released on August 3, 2018. The record included «Witching Hour», «Flying Octopus», «Life & Death», as well as collaborations with Deathpact, Kotek and 1788-L.
By this point, REZZ was already performing regularly at major North American festivals. Circular LED glasses with spiral animation became a permanent part of her live shows and gradually turned into one of the artist's most recognizable visual symbols.
Beyond the Senses and a Second Juno Award
In 2019, REZZ released the six-track EP Beyond the Senses. The influence of heavier alternative music became more noticeable in her sound.
REZZ recorded «Falling» with the band Underoath. The EP also included «Dark Age», «Kiss of Death», «Stress» and «Your Soul Will Never Be Released».
In 2020, Beyond the Senses brought REZZ her second Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year.
That same year, she released the single «Someone Else» with Grabbitz. The vocal track became one of REZZ's best-known works of the period and foreshadowed her more active use of guest vocalists on later releases.
Spiral
On November 19, 2021, REZZ released her third studio album, Spiral. The defining characteristics of her music remained intact, but the material became noticeably more varied through vocal parts and a larger number of collaborations.
PVRIS appeared on «Sacrificial», Dove Cameron on «Taste of You», Deathpact on «Chemical Bond», and PEEKABOO on «Vortex». The track «Let Me In» was created with singer and producer fknsyd.
REZZ's collaboration with deadmau5 also continued in 2021, when the two musicians released the joint track «Hypnocurrency». Their collaborative project later received the name REZZMAU5. Under this name, REZZ and deadmau5 began performing at festivals, combining material from their respective catalogs in a single set.
HypnoVizion Label
In 2022, REZZ founded her own label, HypnoVizion Records. The name continued the themes of hypnosis and altered perception that had been present in her music and visual aesthetic since the early years of her career.
HypnoVizion was created not only as a platform for REZZ's own releases. The label also releases music by other producers working with experimental, dark and bass-oriented electronic sounds.
One of REZZ's notable releases from this period was Nightmare on Rezz Street 2 Mix, a sequel to the 2018 themed mix Nightmare on Rezz Street.
IT'S NOT A PHASE
In July 2023, REZZ released the EP IT'S NOT A PHASE, in which electronic production was closely connected with alternative rock, post-hardcore and gothic aesthetics.
Much of the material was recorded with guest musicians and vocalists. Alice Glass, Silverstein, Grabbitz, Raven Gray, fknsyd and Shadient took part in the project. Electronic arrangements were combined with guitar parts, heavy drums and rock vocals.
Rather than representing a complete genre shift, the EP became a dedicated space for influences that had already existed in REZZ's music but had rarely occupied the central position.
CAN YOU SEE ME?
On March 14, 2024, REZZ released her fourth studio album, CAN YOU SEE ME?. After the more vocal-oriented IT'S NOT A PHASE, the producer returned to predominantly instrumental bass music and made the material noticeably heavier.
The album featured Subtronics, Blanke, Holly, INZO, Digital Ethos, EDDIE, Cyclops, KAVARI and other producers.
The album closes with «Infraliminal (Isabelle's Version)», a collaboration with deadmau5 based on his track «Superliminal». «Superliminal» was one of the recordings that originally influenced REZZ's decision to begin producing music herself.
During the same period, REZZMAU5 began appearing more frequently at major festivals. Joint performances by REZZ and deadmau5 included Tomorrowland and HARD Summer.
As The Pendulum Swings
On September 12, 2025, REZZ released her fifth studio album, As The Pendulum Swings.
After the heavy bass-focused material of CAN YOU SEE ME?, dark techno, industrial textures and the influence of French electro became more prominent again, while REZZ's characteristic slow pulse remained intact.
One of the central singles was «Prophecy». REZZ herself described the track as one of the clearest examples of the musical direction that interested her at the time.
The album also included «Contorted», «Telepathy», «Glass Veins», «Downward» and other tracks. fknsyd appeared on «INCANTATION».
PORTAL
Alongside releasing new music, REZZ developed the live production PORTAL. Unlike a conventional DJ set, the show was designed as a unified audiovisual program in which the music was closely synchronized with lighting, screen graphics and stage design.
This approach continued REZZ's long-established concert aesthetic: the visual component functions not as background decoration but as a fully integrated part of the performance.
REZZ's Musical Style
REZZ's music is most commonly associated with midtempo bass. Her tracks are characterized by a heavy, slow groove that differs noticeably from the faster tempo of much festival EDM.
REZZ's arrangements regularly use dry percussion, low synth lines, distorted bass tones, short cyclical motifs and deliberate pauses. At different points in her career, elements of industrial music, techno, electro, dubstep, alternative rock and gothic music have been added to this foundation.
Early comparisons with Gesaffelstein were largely explained by their shared attraction to slower tempos and dark electronic aesthetics. However, REZZ's later discography established a distinct stylistic model of its own that became visibly influential within the midtempo and bass scenes.
Stage Image
REZZ's main visual symbol is a pair of circular LED glasses with a rotating spiral. They are used in live performances, photography, cover art, video visuals and merchandise design.
This image is connected with themes of hypnosis, mind control and altered perception that run through different periods of her work — from Mass Manipulation to the name HypnoVizion.
REZZ's live presentation is usually built around a unified atmosphere rather than demonstrative performance behind the DJ booth. Gradual tension, synchronized graphics, lighting and low-frequency music work together as parts of a single production.
A Shift In Perspective and New Releases
On April 8, 2026, the six-track EP A Shift In Perspective was released on HypnoVizion. It included «SICK F**K», «Circuit» with Limbo Slice, «STRIPE», «Hysteria», «Caution» with Street Fever and «Next Life».
On June 5, 2026, REZZ continued this period with the single «In The Mirror», recorded with Colleen D'Agostino.
At the same time, REZZ continues to develop HypnoVizion, release her own music and work on major festival and audiovisual productions. Her work has long moved beyond a single midtempo bass label: across different releases, bass music, electro, techno, industrial textures, alternative rock and gothic aesthetics coexist.
