Jennifer Lopez
Potap (real name — Oleksii Andriiovych Potapenko; born May 8, 1981, in Kyiv) — is a Ukrainian rapper, singer, songwriter, composer, music producer, director and television host. He was one of the most prominent Ukrainian pop producers of the 2000s and 2010s. He has worked under the names Potap and PTP, was a member of the projects «Вхід у Змінному Взутті», «Potap and Nastya» and MOZGI, and also created and produced the group «Vremya i Steklo».
As a songwriter and producer, Potap contributed to numerous popular songs, including «Не пара», «На районе», «Чумачечая весна», «Всё пучком», «Имя 505», «Песня 404», «Навернопотомучто», «На Стиле», «Аябо» and «Полицаи». Over the years, he worked with Nastya Kamenskykh, Nadia Dorofeieva, POSITIFF, Michelle Andrade, INGRET, Arkadii Laikin and other artists.
In 2017, Oleksii Potapenko launched the solo hip-hop project PTP. After 2022, Ukrainian-language material became much more prominent in his repertoire, while in 2025 he introduced a new international project, Slavic Balagan. In 2026, after a long break, the duo «Potap and Nastya» returned to the stage.
Childhood, Sports and Education
Oleksii Potapenko was born and raised in Kyiv. His father, Andrii Potapenko, served in the military. His mother, Liudmyla Potapenko, was a professional athlete, became a world champion in underwater swimming relay competition and later worked as a children's swimming coach.
Sport also played an important role in Oleksii Potapenko's life for many years. He practiced swimming before switching to water polo and earned the title of Master of Sport of Ukraine.
After school, Oleksii Potapenko entered the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine, where he qualified as a physical education teacher and swimming and water polo coach. He later graduated from Kyiv National Economic University with a second degree in economics, entrepreneurship and auditing.
Oleksii Potapenko pursued music alongside sport. As a teenager, he began writing lyrics and recording his own songs and became interested in rap. During his studies, he performed in KVN comedy competitions, developing improvisational skills and a comic approach to writing that later became noticeable in his music projects.
Early Years in Ukrainian Hip-Hop
Potap's professional music career began in the Ukrainian rap scene of the early 2000s. One of his first notable projects was the group «Вхід у Змінному Взутті» (VUZV), which Oleksii Potapenko joined early in the decade and remained with until 2006.
VUZV belonged to an early generation of Ukrainian hip-hop groups. This period gave Potap practical experience in rap, songwriting and studio work.
At the same time, he collaborated with New'Z'Cool and XS and also began working with a young Oleksii Zavhorodnii — the future POSITIFF.
Potap's song «На своей волне» was used on the soundtrack to the film «Один за всех». In 2006, the joint track by VUZV, New'Z'Cool and XS, «Штольня», was included on the soundtrack to the Ukrainian film of the same name.
Even at this stage, Potap was interested not only in his own rap parts but in creating songs as complete works: music, vocals, videos and performers' stage images.
«Potap and Nastya»
The major breakthrough in Potap's career came in 2006, when he began working with singer Anastasiia Kamenskykh. This led to the creation of the duo «Potap and Nastya».
Within the project, Nastya Kamenskykh was primarily responsible for melodic vocals, while Potap combined rap, lyric and music writing with production and work on the overall concept.
The duo's first major hit was «Не пара». One of the foundations of the project was the contrast between two characters: emotional female vocals and Potap's ironic recitative. Relationships between men and women were often presented through arguments, humor and deliberate exaggeration.
The music of the early period combined pop, R&B, hip-hop, electronic elements and reggaeton, while certain genre clichés were sometimes used in a parodic way.
«Не пара» and the First Hits
During their first years, «Potap and Nastya» released «В натуре», «Крепкие орешки», «Почему», «Без любви», «На районе» and other songs.
In 2007, the duo won the «Five Stars» competition in Sochi and subsequently began touring extensively across Ukraine, Russia and other post-Soviet countries.
The early material was included on the album «Не пара», while in 2008 the compilation «Золотые киты. The Best Of» was released.
«Не люби мне мозги»
In 2009, the album «Не люби мне мозги» was released. Its title track became one of the most recognizable songs of the duo's early period.
By this point, Potap's characteristic lyrical style had taken shape: conversational speech, slang, wordplay, deliberate grammatical distortions and short phrases designed to be instantly memorable.
Instead of neutral literary pop lyrics, the songs actively used everyday speech, youth expressions and humor.
«Чумачечая весна»
In 2011, «Чумачечая весна» was released — one of the best-known songs by «Potap and Nastya».
The chorus centered on the deliberately incorrect word «чумачечая». Potap would later return to this kind of phonetic wordplay repeatedly, turning unusual or absurd expressions into the main memorable element of a song.
In the following years, the duo released «Если вдруг», «Мы отменяем конец света», «Прилелето», «РуРуРу», «Вместе» and other tracks.
«Всё пучком» and «Щит и Мяч»
In 2013, the album «Всё пучком» was released, continuing the combination of pop music, rap and an electronic dance foundation.
The title track became one of the duo's biggest hits. It was followed by «Уди Уди», «Бумдиггибай», «Умамы» and «Я……Я».
In 2015, the two-part project «Щит и Мяч» appeared. Among its notable recordings was «Стиль собачки», a collaboration with Bianca.
«Potap and Nastya» became one of the most successful projects in Oleksii Potapenko's career, regularly performing at major venues and receiving music awards.
MOZGI Entertainment
The success of «Potap and Nastya» allowed Oleksii Potapenko to move from working with a single artist project to building a full production system.
Together with Iryna Horova, he developed MOZGI Entertainment, which later became part of Mozgi Group. The structure included a music label, recording studio, video production division, concert business and other units.
Potap was primarily responsible for the creative side: music, lyrics, identifying artistic formats and developing project concepts. Iryna Horova handled management and business operations.
«Vremya i Steklo»
One of Potap's most successful projects was the group «Vremya i Steklo», created in 2010.
The members were Nadia Dorofeieva and Oleksii Zavhorodnii — POSITIFF, with whom Potap had already worked since the New'Z'Cool period.
The first single was «Так выпала Карта». It was followed by «Любви Точка Нет», «Серебряное море», «Кафель», «Гармошка» and «Слеза».
The turning-point release was «Имя 505», released in 2015. The music was written by Potap and POSITIFF. The song was built around a minimalist electronic rhythm, short vocal phrases and the unusual phonetics of its chorus.
After «Имя 505», the group released «Песня 404», «Навернопотомучто», «На Стиле», «Тролль», «ТОП», «Е,Бой» and «Дим».
«Vremya i Steklo» ended in 2020. After the group disbanded, Nadia Dorofeieva began a solo career as DOROFEEVA, while POSITIFF focused on his own projects.
MOZGI
In 2014, Potap launched the male electronic group MOZGI. Its core members alongside him were POSITIFF and Diadia Vadia.
Unlike the more pop-oriented «Potap and Nastya» and «Vremya i Steklo», MOZGI was conceived as a harder-edged club project with elements of EDM, electro house, hip-hop and rap.
The musicians jokingly referred to their own genre mixture as «electroshawarma».
Among MOZGI's best-known songs are «Аябо», «Хлам», «Вылюби», «Ножомпо», «Вертолёт», «Полицаи», «Бармен», «Атятя», «Влажный Пляжный Движ», «Полюбэ», «999» and «Ой, Мамо!».
The group's discography includes BIKINI ALBUM, «Электрошаурма», Bar, «На белом», Middle Finger and kyivstyle. The last new MOZGI songs appeared in 2021.
Work with Other Artists
Projects associated with NK, DOROFEEVA, Michelle Andrade, INGRET and other performers passed through MOZGI Entertainment.
Potap contributed to songwriting and production, the development of stage concepts and the creation of music videos. Among his most notable projects were the launch of NK's solo career after the hiatus of «Potap and Nastya» and the first stage of DOROFEEVA's independent career.
PTP
In 2017, «Potap and Nastya» announced a hiatus. Nastya Kamenskykh launched her solo career as NK, while Oleksii Potapenko started the hip-hop project PTP.
On April 20, 2017, «Нах... из машины» was released, followed on November 3 by the EP «Спелые сливы». It included «Малибу» with POSITIFF, «Нах... из машины», «ПростиТурция» and the title track.
In 2019, PTP released the album MISHA/. «Константа» and «CHINA» also belong to this period.
In 2020, he released «Карантин», «Дома», «ЛЕТО2020» and other songs, followed in 2021 by the album «Без Рекламы».
PTP allowed Oleksii Potapenko to separate his own rap material into a distinct project without directly linking it to the pop repertoire of other MOZGI Entertainment artists.
Film and Television
Potap has repeatedly worked in film and television. His songs have been used in Ukrainian movies, while Oleksii Potapenko himself has appeared in cameo roles.
For the comedy «Скажене весілля», Potap recorded «Найкращий день» with Oleh Vynnyk. For the film's sequel, Potap, Oleh Vynnyk and Olia Polyakova performed «Свят! Свят! Свят!».
On television, Potap has worked as a host and appeared in entertainment programs. He has repeatedly served as a coach on «The Voice of the Country» and «The Voice Kids».
In 2020, Oleksii Potapenko was awarded the honorary title «Honored Artist of Ukraine».
Music After 2022
After the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, both Potap's own repertoire and the structure of his former production activities changed significantly.
In 2022, he released the Ukrainian-language songs «Наші надавали раші», «Шлях додому», «Київ» and «Триклятий Лютий».
In 2023, releases included «Волонтер», «Ренесанс», «Тихої ночі» with HORIZON, «Рай де?» with KATARINA, «Артан» with Diadia Vadia and NAPILNIK, and «Дощ» with Diadia Vadia.
Potap wrote «Рай де?» himself. Its story is connected with families separated by war.
In 2024, he released «Дочекайсь», «Мама» and «Вибач».
End of the Partnership with Iryna Horova
After the beginning of the full-scale war, Oleksii Potapenko's long professional partnership with Iryna Horova also came to an end.
Management of MOZGI Entertainment passed entirely to Iryna Horova. At the end of 2022, she publicly confirmed that her professional collaboration with Potap had ended.
In 2023, MOZGI Entertainment was transformed into the label pomitni, owned and managed by Iryna Horova.
As a result, the modern pomitni label belongs to Iryna Horova's independent activities, while Oleksii Potapenko's involvement relates to the company's earlier period.
Slavic Balagan
At the beginning of 2025, Oleksii Potapenko introduced the international stage project Slavic Balagan.
On January 20, «Trumpumpum» was released — an English-language satirical track styled around the image of a loud Slavic party. The music video used images created with artificial intelligence tools.
Later Slavic Balagan material combined hip-hop, pop, dance-oriented electronic music and stylized Balkan and Slavic elements. The song «Play» was also released in 2025.
Slavic Balagan did not completely replace the stage name Potap. In digital catalogs, some recordings are released simultaneously under the names Potap, Balagan and Slavic Balagan.
Kysil
On May 10, 2026, the album Kysil was released under the names Potap, Balagan and Slavic Balagan.
The record consists of nine short tracks and continues the direction of the international project, combining English-language lyrics and stylized Slavic elements with rap and dance-pop.
Kysil became the first full-length album of this period in Oleksii Potapenko's career.
The Return of «Potap and Nastya»
In spring 2026, Potap and Nastya Kamenskykh announced the return of their joint project after a long hiatus.
On July 26, 2026, the duo performed at the Laima Rendezvous Jūrmala festival in Jūrmala, Latvia. It marked the first major joint concert by «Potap and Nastya» in roughly nine years.
The set included «Не пара», «На районе», «Умамы», «Всё пучком» and other songs from their earlier repertoire. The artists also announced plans for further joint performances.
The return prompted discussion among Ukrainian audiences because the duo performed Russian-language material while the war was ongoing. In terms of the project's history, however, the appearance marked the first major return to joint concert activity following the hiatus that began in 2017.
Potap's Songwriting Style
Potap's music has never been limited to a single genre. His early work was rooted in hip-hop, «Potap and Nastya» combined rap with pop, R&B, reggaeton and electronic music, «Vremya i Steklo» gradually moved toward modern dance-pop, while MOZGI worked with EDM, electro house and hip-hop.
One of the most consistent features of his work is his approach to language. Potap uses conversational speech, slang, wordplay, repetition, unexpected rhymes and deliberately incorrect words.
Expressions such as «чумачечая», «Аябо» and «Ножомпо» function primarily on a phonetic level: an unusual word becomes part of the rhythm and a memorable element of the chorus.
Another characteristic technique is the combination of recitative with strong melodic vocals. This model appeared most clearly in «Potap and Nastya» and was later used in modified form in other projects.
Potap as a Music Producer
A significant part of Potap's career has been connected with music performed by other artists.
In «Vremya i Steklo», he was one of the main songwriters and producers. Potap participated in the development of NK's solo project, while DOROFEEVA began her independent career within the production system that had previously been created. Michelle Andrade, INGRET and other performers also worked with MOZGI Entertainment.
When working on artist projects, Oleksii Potapenko dealt not only with studio production but also with music videos, visual concepts and live presentation. He repeatedly worked as a director and screenwriter for music videos.
This combination of songwriting, performance and production made Potap one of the notable figures in Ukrainian commercial pop music of the 2000s and 2010s.
Personal Life
Oleksii Potapenko's first wife was producer Iryna Horova. In 2008, the couple had a son, Andrii. Oleksii Potapenko also helped raise Iryna Horova's daughter Natalia from a previous marriage.
After their divorce, the former spouses continued working together professionally and jointly developed MOZGI Entertainment. Their business partnership ended in 2022.
On May 23, 2019, Oleksii Potapenko married his long-time creative partner Nastya Kamenskykh.
On May 1, 2026, the artists published a joint statement announcing their divorce. Later, after the duo returned to performing together, Oleksii Potapenko and Nastya Kamenskykh said that the divorce story had been part of a promotional campaign and that their marriage had not actually ended.

Awards and Recognition
Over the years, Potap's songs and projects have received awards from Golden Gramophone, MUZ-TV, RU.TV, YUNA and the M1 Music Awards.
The production period of «Vremya i Steklo» was particularly significant: after the release of «Имя 505», the group became one of the biggest Ukrainian pop projects of its generation.
On June 27, 2020, by decree of the President of Ukraine, Oleksii Potapenko was awarded the honorary title «Honored Artist of Ukraine».
Potap as an Artist and Producer
Oleksii Potapenko's career combines several areas that developed in parallel for many years. He began in Ukrainian hip-hop, later became a member of one of the biggest pop duos of its era, created music for other performers and built a production system from which «Vremya i Steklo», NK, DOROFEEVA and other projects emerged.
After ending his collaboration with MOZGI Entertainment, Oleksii Potapenko focused on his own releases and new stage formats. Slavic Balagan continued his long-standing interest in mixing genres and playful personas, while the return of «Potap and Nastya» once again connected his current concert activity with the catalog created over the previous two decades.
